Residual Welding Stresses and Ways to Reduce Stress-Corrosive Destruction of Trunk Gas Pipelines
Abstract
The paper presents the results of studies of residual welding stresses in welded joints of large diameter pipes produced by the “sheet-pipe” process. The topography of distribution of residual stresses in circumferential and longitudinal direction in all the perimeter and length of the pipe is first established. The ways to reduce residual stresses in a pipe by means of local thermo-mechanical treatment of the welded joint and development of fluxcored welding wire on martensitic basis are also studied
