CHARACTERISTICS OF PERSONALITY AND TEMPERAMENT, AGGRESSION AND DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS IN PATIENTS WITH COPD

Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease characterized by not completely reversible airflow restriction. The purpose of this study is to examine a sample of patients with COPD by psychological characteristics. The study involved 43 patients with COPD on the basis of University Clinical Hospital number 1 of the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov. The average age of patients with COPD is 65.6 ± 6.8 years, of which 36 men, 7 women. The following methods were used: TCI-125 questionnaire, NEO-FFI questionnaire, Life Style Index questionnaire, BPAQ Bass-Perry questionnaire, TEMPS-A questionnaire,  Beck Depression scale. Two clusters of COPD patients were identified based on the results of these psychological questionnaires. Cluster 1 was named "Closed Practicаl persons" (72 % of the sample), Cluster 2 – "Socially Maladjusted" (28 %). Statistically significant differences between clusters were found by the factor "Self-directedness" in the questionnaire TCI-125 and "Integral score of aggression" according to BPAQ. Clusters have been studied for temperaments according to TEMPS-A, depressive symptoms of BDI, and have been examined in more detail for aggression by BPAQ. Significant differences were revealed in the following indicators: physical aggression, anger; cyclothymic temperament, irritable temperament; somatic depression scale, total depression score.
