SOCIAL EXPECTATIONS IN RELATION TO GIFTED CHILDREN IN TERMS OF COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY
Abstract
The paper describes approach to solving the issue of children’s giftedness and its development in educational institutions. Social expectations for giftedness often play the role of selffulfilling prophecies. The approach is based on Jerome Bruner‘s ideas. In the article it is considered the conditions of formation of teachers’ willingness to perceive explicit or potential abilities of each child by means of the formation of perceptual categories such as “giftedness”. Among such conditions it is reported formation of pedagogues’ attitude toward assessment of children’s uncharacteristic behavior previously as manifestation of uniqueness.
