Abstract

The study is an attempt to test for different age groups theoretical statement of Rollo May that the experience of anxiety depends on a condition of individual value and needs systems of the person and is caused by frustration of the needs associated with the values that are vital for the existence of the individual. It has also targeted to set value-need structure of the anxiety with taking into account mutual influence of needs on each other. In article results of research of dependence of anxiety from the individual content of the value-need sphere of personality (VNPS) of people of young, middle and old age are presented.
The experiment was planned on the basis of the theory of value and need sphere of the personality
of professor V.G. Morogin; аs methods of identifying the values and needs of the personality author's projective techniques of simultaneous (concurrent) and successive (serial) tachistoscopical exposure of personally important values are used. Determination of the presence and magnitude of anxiety was conducted using а questionnaire of V.L. Levi in the modification of W.R. Lisenko and K.V. Lokh. The regression analysis was applied for statistical processing.
Value-need indicators that determine the increase and decrease of anxiety, their magnitude and direction are established, which makes it possible to diagnose the most likely values and needs that motivate growth and reduce of anxiety in young, middle and old age. The unique formula of dependence of General anxiety from the structure of needs was obtained for each age
group.

The obtained dependences give possibility to detect the value-need zone as the most likely focus of fears and so causing their decline. This information can be useful to provide qualified psychological support as it contributes to the definition of the object of anxiety, as well as the development of methods of its regulation.
