FOREIGN STUDIES OF WELL-BEING: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

This article provides an overview of modern foreign publications devoted to the well-being studies. The article describesthe main theories of subjective and psychological well-being developed by foreign researchers. Their different views on the concept, structure and functions of well-being, main characteristics and components of subjective and psychological well-being are considered. The article presents a short overview of the results of contemporary well-being studies, the ways to facilitate subjective and psychological well-being, and positive and negative outcomes of well-being. The present analysis of the current state of research on well-being theories revealed the problem of the absence of generally accepted definition of subjective and psychological well-being and their relations. The current review identified the need for further theoretical and empirical research on well-being, as well as the need to create new psychometrically validated methods for studying subjective and psychological well-being.
