Abstract

Samples of solid solutions (Y1–xNdx)3Al5O12 system obtained by directional crystallization are analyzed. The parameters of the lattice and the magnetic susceptibility of the crystals as function of the Nd3+ concentration are determined. Neodymium replaces yttrium and due to the proximity of the ionic radii of these elements there is no change in the lattice parameters of solid solutions. The magnetic susceptibility obeys the Curie’s law. It is suggested that there is an antiferromagnetic ordering of the cations closest f-f electrons within Nd3+ pairs of the nearest neighbors.
