PRAGMATIC ADAPTATION IN TRANSLATION AS A WAY TO OVERCOME LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL BARRIER
Abstract
The article deals with the issue of pragmatic adaptation while translating a literary

in cases when specific linguistic and cultural phenomena are under translation. The analysis
of translational failures is provided and the conclusion is made that the way to avoid
them is to possess broad extralinguistic knowledge which is the basis of the translator’s
competence.
