PARAMETERS OF NORMATIVE ASSESSMENT OF ADEQUATE TRANSLATION
Abstract
This article concerns basic parameters of normative assessment of adequate translation.
These basic parameters are norm equivalence, genre and style norm and pragmatic
norm. The hierarchical relationship between these aspects of translation is presented in
the form of a special scheme. “Equivalent translation” and “adequate translation” are
considered to be non-identical concepts but still they are closely connected with each other.
The author lists a number of linguistic and extra-linguistic reasons that often prevent
complete adequacy in translating texts. The article is intended for students and graduate
students who study theory of translation and intercultural communication.
