Abstract

The paper deals with the Bulgarian linguistic space in Ukraine covering important issues
connected with the Bulgarian diaspora: Bulgarian settlements from the 18th century
up to the present, the language of the Bulgarians and its functioning, the old and new Bulgarian
onomastics serving as evidences of the Bulgarians’ presence there. The results of
the research and the author’s observations prove that the Bulgarian linguistic space in the
Ukraine is significant and has a two-century history. The Bulgarians are a considerable
part of Ukraine’s population nowadays, they have made their mark on the Ukrainian history,
and in the Russian history as well.
