TO THE PROBLEM OF THE LANGUAGE SITUATION IN THE CHINESE BORDER AREA
Abstract
Each language situation is specific and unique due to the circumstances of its formation,
it should be considered when speaking about consistent typological description of
language situations. The present paper aims at describing the language situation formed in
the Chinese Border area in the second half of the 20th century as well as at finding out
principal factors that influenced its formation. The area of research is Border villages of
counties Syunke and Sunyu (Heilongjiang Province, China) located on the right bank of
the Amur River.
The researcher’s concern with the problem analyzed in the present paper is determined
by language heterogeneity typical for the area, different idioms, the Russian language
being one of them. These facts were proved by the research-study expeditions
(2011–2012). The author tried to examine the language situation from the standpoint of
typological features: quantitative, qualitative, evaluative. The present research is based on
the framework of a wide range of problems the author is interested in. The material for
the analysis is documentary and speech data obtained experimentally during the researchstudy
expeditions.
