Church reform of Peter I as an attempt to «westernization» of orthodoxy
Abstract
Long, more than two centuries of absence of the Patriarchate, was the result of the reformist activities
of Peter I Alekseevich, called the Great (1672—1725). This article is devoted to one aspect
of the reforms of the Emperor. Currently, it seems quite valid all the reforms of Peter I described as
the “Westernization” of Russia, and to conduct religious reform as an attempt to “Westernization” of
Orthodoxy. Peter I, after his famous trip to Europe, tended to establish in the Homeland, a new system
of relations of state power and the Church, on the model of the Protestant European States.
