Abstract

The writings glorifying and perpetuating the memory of the new Martyrs and Confessors of Russia
are of exceptional importance today. They provide an opportunity of reflection and consecration of the
history of our past. At the present stage the dynamics of growth of canonization is clearly visible. It is

associated with the need to create a new iconography. The article is reveals of the general principles
of the formation of iconography of the «Cathedral of new Martyrs and Confessors of Russia». The
author identified the problems of general character of painting faces in the practice of contemporary
icon painters on the base of analysis a number of icons of the Cathedral of Saints.
