The image of Sevast opol in the memories of participants of the Great Patriotic war
Abstract
The article analyzes more than a dozen memoirs of participants in the Great Patriotic War, in
which there are stories devoted to the defense of Sevastopol in 1941—1942. The author identified
the main images of Sevastopol, which could have been formed when reading these texts, by Soviet
readers. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the mechanisms of formation of such images
in the context of the state historical policy that was carried out in the USSR in the second half of the
20th century. The author reveals some features of the perception of the image of the city by direct
participants in the defense of Sevastopol in 1941—1942.
