Patriarch or tsar: debatable questions
Abstract
In article relationship of the Moscow princes with Byzantium after the agreement of the Constantinople
patriarch Josef and the emperor Ioann Paleologa with the Roman Catholic Church, and also
about adoption of the union by bishops by orthodox Greek church is considered. About the beginning
of autocephaly of Russian Orthodox Church as after adoption of the union on the Florentine cathedral
Russians have lost the head in the person of the Constantinople patriarchy. By the end of the 16th
century orthodox governors of the states looked at the Moscow princes as on the predominating power
in legislative management, and just as on the defender of Orthodoxy around the world. After creation
of patriarchal department the rank of “the locum tenens of a patriarchal throne” is for life assigned
to the bishop Krutitsky. The chronological moments of formation of the state and church authorities,
and also an order of formation of patriarchal department and an imperial throne are lit.
