Opportunities and prospects of constructing harmonious interethnic relationships in regional level

Abstract

The article presents analyses of conditions and prospects interethnic relationships in regional
level (in Sverdlovsk region). The opportunities of constructing harmonious interethnic relationships
were viewed using theoretical models (constructs). The author proves the necessity of combining the
elements of three models — the constructs of inter-ethnic relations with regard to Russian reality.
The use of elements of the three models will eliminate their disadvantages and will allow creating
ability to form the concept of over-ethnic community. There are both opportunities and preconditions
to constructing harmonious inter-ethnic relations at the level of Sverdlovsk region and challenges
and threats in inter-ethnic sphere. Opportunities and preconditions related to historical specialties
of formation of regional community to a conflict-free basis, the presence of integrative over-ethnic
images regional level (such as “Ural people”), primarily, among older age groups, a high level of
development of ethnic cultures. Threats and problems for the construction of harmonious inter-ethnic
relations are associated with new challenges: increase in migratory flows, a weak role of integrative
over-ethnic images, primarily among young people, the shortcomings of the policy of assimilation
and adaptation, differentiation of population by level of life.
