Abstract

The author continues research on the professional art of the Southern Urals.
The archive documents, literary works in various state and private funds,
and compositions are analyzed. All together they are sources of research on
creative works of prominent artists of the Southern Urals – artist N. A. Rusakov
(1888—1941) and engraver I. I. Nogtev (1886—1955). The pivot for creative works
comprehension and artists’ contact was the portrait of I. I. Nogtev painted by
N. A. Rusakov in 1936. The analysis of this portrait entailed the discovery of unique
connection of historical time of the first third of 20 c. and the art, the connection of
essential path of art development in the Southern Urals. The analysis enabled to
specify the problem of a genre “portrait of an artist” and reveal creative principles
as a fragment of monographic studies
