European architects in soviet town planning during first five-year plans: conflict knots
Abstract
The understudied aspect of Soviet town planning in 1920—1930s and the activities
of foreign architects in Soviet design organizations are examined. The problem of
adaptation of foreign experience in the Soviet design system at the turn of 1920—1930
s — first half of 1930s is considered. The basic conflict knots in the relations between
foreign specialists and the Soviet design system are exposed. The authors focused
their attention to the main goals of European architects, the activity arrangement in
design organizations and on the construction site of first five-year plans, the relations
of Soviet and foreign specialists. The article presents the main reasons of mutual
non-cooperation between foreign architects and the Soviet state. The article is based
