Abstract

The article is devoted to the critical analyses of urban population number
of Perm, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions on the basis of data of All-Union
population census of 1939. On the basis of a wide source base the author shows
that the census was held in such a way that it excluded misreporting. All the
work on development of its results was secure. In June 1939 the official census
results were published but they did not coincide with the results introduced
for scientific use in 1990s. The article considers the discussion of authenticity
of census results of 1939. The author joins those scientists who while admitting
the fact of census falsification also consider possible the usage of census results
while modifying them. The author made an attempt to correct the number of
Ural cities population while using materials of census and modern historical
demographic researches
