Envy as a category of social and political thought of st. Johannes chrysostomus
Abstract
This article looks at St. John Chrysostom’s teachings on envy — a quite common thing in the
empiristically researched society. According to the Saint, envy — is the sinful passion, disrupting both the personality of the envier and the society on the whole, leading to common enmity and crime. As envy became common for the human being only after the Fall of our progenitors, it is not a natural social attribute. Envy may and must be removed, as other sinful passions, which is a necessary condition for a harmonious society
