Abstract

The article examines the state of a naval judicial office in the judicial system of
the Russian Empire. The competence of naval courts at the end of XIX century is
considered. Despite the fact that there were three judicial offices and each had its
own characteristics, the author has come to the conclusion that the judicial system
of the Russian Empire maintained a relative unity.

    graduated in 1992 the Faculty of Social
    Sciences of the A.I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University (Leningrad), specialization
    — History. He is currently a senior lecturer at the Faculty of History of the St.
    Petersburg Institute of Jewish Studies, postgraduate student of Historical Department, St.
    Petersburg State Polytechnic University. Research interests: History of the Russian Imperial
    Navy in the late XIX — early XX centuries
