Abstract

The author of article analyzes the Chaplin’s film “The Great Dictator” (1940),
which combined the art of the cinema and political propaganda. The author
pointed out the concept and preparatory phase of the film. He drew attention to
the key scenes of the film and their ideological content. The question about the
reaction of the authorities and society at this film in the western countries and the
Soviet Union was also studied by the author. The main thesis of the article — the
film played an important role in the ideological struggle with the doctrines and
practices of Nazism and Fascism. Until now, this kind of standard for makes fun
of dictators on the screen.

    graduated from Chelyabinsk State University
    (1989). He is Doctor of Historical Science, professor of the Department “Russian History”,
    director of research and educational center “Oral History” in the South Ural State
    University (Chelyabinsk). Research interests: History of the White Movement and the
