Brothers Basovs’ art as drawing-artists (the 16th — 17th centuries): on history of open manuscripts
Abstract
The article deals with the introduction and studying of Old Russian manuscripts by artists brothers
Stefan, Feodor, Gavrila (known as Ivan) Basov. Much attention is given to the systematization
of information about their artworks. It became necessary in case of identification and accumulation
of historical facts about life and creative works by artists. The text gives valuable information on
studying of each book by brothers Basovs from books that are known today. The article is constructed
on the chronological principle based on opening and further studying of Basovs’ manuscripts. The
author noted the main features of the books, information about the time and the place of their creation,
customers, art shape and differences of scripts by brothers, etc., which have been revealed by
scientists throughout the long period of studying since the end of the 19th century until nowadays.
The article generalizes the experience of the previous researches about the masters’ art and estimates
the value of these researches for further studying of brothers Basovs’ art.
