Academician V. S. Nemchinov on scientific problems of appropriate spatial distribution of country’s production powers (1949—1963)

Abstract

The article analyses V. S. Nemchinov’s ideas on basic economic principles determining
the tendencies of territorial public distribution of labour and problems of
territorial reasonable distribution of production powers. It reveals the meaning of
scientific, coordinating and expeditionary activities of Production Powers Studying
Board under Science Academy of the USSR. The work considers V. S. Nemchinov’s
suggestions on directions of special expeditionary investigations on complex usage of
natural resources of the USSR eastern regions and prospects of new industrial and
power bases erection. In the end of the article the author makes a conclusion that
V. S. Nemchinov grounded new suggestions on development of composite regional
plans aimed at complete support of country’s eastern regions specific branches
necessities as well as necessities of population. The author also puts forward a task
of leveling the population living and culture standards by means of reasonable territorial
distribution of surplus product.
