Abstract

The conducted analysis on the evolution of methods and models of the spatial location of the subjects of
market relations revealed the possibility of a transfer of previously developed theories in logistics of trade
services and establish the following. The authors prove that the model of functional organization of the market
space of cities, proposed by scholars of American and European economic schools help to determine the
intercity hierarchy and functional organization of the economic space of the city.
The analysis of spatial and territorial organization of large and major Russian cities confirms the development
of urban areas within the framework of these theories. For the present stage of the spatial development
of large and major cities the key process was the emergence of the second-tier urban space - formation
of sub-centers of cities on highways, their intersections, where shopping malls are actively being built, complexes,
business objects, framed with apartment blocks. This confirms the suitability of the transfer and development
of existing models and methods of these theories in logistics of trade services.
