Abstract

The Russian legislation provides a regulation of a shift method of work organization, however, a rare
reference to the gained experience and the dynamic growth of oil and gas industry leads to lagging of existing
tools for organization and regulation of the shift method behind modern requirements. At the moment, a social
cooperation between employers and shift method staff is often full of difficulties because of shortcomings
of shift method labor organization. This fact determines a necessity of organization of fundamentally
new devices for application of the shift method under such conditions. The main objective of the article is to
identify peculiarities of the shift method in the Arctic zone and substantiate solutions of the main problem
within these processes. The article summarizes emerging risks of shift staff work conditions in oil and gas
companies in the Arctic zone, reviews features of the settlement system and work organization in the Yamal-
Nenets Autonomous District and ways to solve existing problems in this area. A new approach to the interaction
between employers and staff and formation of social living conditions between shift work periods will
restore the capacity of workers, accelerate their social adaptation and increase motivation.
