Abstract

The article presents an assessment of the foreign trade potential of the industrial region. The study aimed to analyze the comparative advantages of exports and imports as factors of foreign trade potential, using the Chelyabinsk Region as an example. The study focuses on the region's foreign trade activity, which is defined as a set of export and import operations that reflect the region's specialization. The research methods include statistical indicators and comparative analysis. The study's hypothesis is that information on the comparative advantages of industrial regions is practically significant for reformulating the strategy of foreign economic relations and developing foreign trade activities. The analysis identified commodity positions with stable and unstable comparative advantages from the long-term development trend of 2006–2019. Further studying the geography and growth rates of industrial production while taking technological efficiency into account will make it possible to determine changes in the region's foreign economic relations strategy.
