Abstract

This article presents new ways of strengthening of reinforced concrete columns with the help
of coating made of liquid glass to increase the carrying capacity of compressed elements when increasing
operation load and in case of defects of a local character. The existing methods for strengthening
of concrete columns by holders are imperfect because of their high price and complexity of
the device. Thus, this problem continues to be relevant. The existing techniques for strengthening of
reinforced concrete columns using modern materials are analyzed, their shortcomings are revealed,
the literary and patent information retrieval is carried out. On the basis of identified shortcomings the
authors have developed new design solutions to strengthening of reinforced concrete columns by holders
using adhesive coating made of liquid glass. The liquid glass has a number of advantages as compared
to known materials, namely low price and high adhesive properties. The novelty of the developed
design solutions is confirmed by obtaining patents and positive decisions for a patent. The practical
and theoretical importance lies in the possibility of using the developed design solutions for
strengthening of reinforced concrete columns by holders of reconstructed buildings and structures.
