Abstract

This article is devoted to the architectural and designer features of thermal resorts, with regard
to solving the topical issue of forming and developing the Russian health-and-recreation base. The
urgency of this topic for the Ural region is explained. Brief information about the structure of the
ancient Roman thermae is given as of a special type of public facilities, which is considered as a cultural
and typological basis for building the modern thermal complexes. Historical and modern ways
of designing thermae are analyzed by the example of the Baden-Baden thermal complexes in Germany,
built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Their architectural, composition and space-planning solutions
are studied. The illustrations are given. The correlation between the architectural and designer
features of thermal complexes and the modern lifestyle is uncovered. The research draws conclusions
